Welcome to Warhammer Online's May newsletter! Call to Arms, WAR's first 'live expansion,' is underway and the Land of the Dead is almost here! We've completed the Bitter Rivals live event, and WAR's newest careers, the Orc Choppa and Dwarf Slayer, are now live. Beyond the Sands has finished up and we're heading into the final live event - Rise of the Tomb Kings - leading up to the unveiling of the Land of the Dead, a massive new Tomb Kings dungeon zone!

In This Newsletter...

Rise of the Tomb Kings, the exciting final chapter of the Call to Arms live expansion arc is coming soon! This massive game update introduces the Land of the Dead, an ancient necropolis filled with powerful foes and the riches of kings. This high-level area features innovative new content, console-style action gameplay via PQs and boss fights, and a powerful new armor set for every career.

But that's just the tip of the pyramid! Game update 1.3 also brings a wealth of new and upgraded features to WAR. The new Sigil system makes armor Wards a permanent character unlock, whether you’re wearing your set pieces or not. Sweeping improvements to the game's interface, numerous career fixes and enhancements, and a plethora of improvements to the Gunbad dungeon highlight this huge update.

In terms of scope and scale, update 1.3 brings an unprecedented amount of new content to you, and it’s free! There has never been a better time to log in and experience the battle between the forces of Order and Destruction than now!

Highlights:

• Rise of the Tomb Kings – Our next exciting live event pits the realms against each other in a race to collect resources for an expedition to the Land of the Dead. The winner will gain early control of this awesome new zone.

• The Land of the Dead –This brand new area features a large open RvR zone and a perilous, trap-filled dungeon with instances that can be invaded by the enemy realm when control of the area switches hands. New rewards and challenges await for high-Rank players!

• Sigil System – No longer will you be required to wear armor set pieces for their Wards. With the Sigil system, armor Wards become a character unlock, so that once you get one, you’ll have it forever - even when you don’t wear the armor piece that grants it.

• Career Updates – Every career will see changes in update 1.3, including adjustments to area-of-effect abilities, lots of bug fixes, and balance tweaks across the board.

• Gunbad Dungeon Improvements – Respawn points have been added throughout Gunbad, and the entire dungeon has been reworked as a smaller single-group adventure for characters starting at Rank 19.
  

• And much more! – Improvements to RvR, new UI features and bug fixes, and many other updates and improvements await in update 1.3!

Unable to prevent the initial desecration of the Land of the Dead, the forces of Order now take action to prevent Tchar'zanek's army from achieving their goals. Both sides are now locked in a race to Nehekhara—a race that will be won by the first side to successfully realize a faster, more secure method of transport: air travel.

All eyes turn to the capital cities where airship construction is underway, for if the airships do not launch, the battle for the Land of the Dead will be over before it can begin. The awesome forces of both armies now scramble to secure badly needed resources, eliciting a bloodbath the likes of which neither side can ever imagine.

Rise of the Tomb Kings is the third and final chapter in the Call to Arms! event story arc leading up to the release of the Land of the Dead dungeon. Rise of the Tomb Kings will pit the forces of Order and Destruction against each other in a resource-race to gain access to the Land of the Dead. The successful faction on each server will receive premier access to the dungeon a full day earlier than anyone else on the same server.

Though the primary reward for participation in this event is the chance to gain early access to the Tomb Kings dungeon, players who complete all ten Tome challenges will receive an exclusive title: "Sky Captain" for Order, and "Master of the Air" for Destruction. Some brave adventurers may even receive the Ravening Cloak, an ultra rare-drop item reward.

To the south, the long dead and forgotten lands of Nehekhara stir once again with undead life. Unknown perils and unimaginable rewards await those willing to make the journey across this desert wasteland and challenge the Vulture Lord. Welcome to the Land of the Dead....

To your right, there are a number of razor-sharp, swinging blades for your grooming pleasure. Don't need a shave today? No problem! Our withered staff of experts will make sure you've reason to see the barber-surgeon later this evening!"

The Tomb of the Vulture Lord is an enormous Pyramid centered in the Necropolis of Zandri in the Land of the Dead. Inside players will find a level 40 group instanced action-adventure experience. Throughout the semi-linear ascent to the Pyramid’s apex are seven unique Public Quests, several traps, eight action packed boss fights, and various other encounters.

Explore the majesty of the once-thriving Nehekharan Empire as you venture through dynamic rooms within the pyramid. Face off with the strongest of the Tomb King’s armies in the many levels of this ancient citadel. Be wary of the traps and curses that defend the hallowed halls of the Vulture Lord's final resting place. Trespassers successful enough to reach the apex of the Pyramid will be rewarded by an impromptu audience with King Amenemhetum himself, as well as the chance to claim (or be devoured by) his Casket of Souls.

The risks of the Tomb of the Vulture Lord are many, but so to are the rewards.

On May 9th, the Mythic Entertainment crew stormed Baltimore en force to attend the Baltimore Games Day. Over 40 Mythic Entertainment employees were present at the booth, including members of the Dev team Paul Barnett, Josh Drescher, Adam Gershowitz, Jeff Skalski, Gabe Amatangelo, Nate Levy, Brian Wheeler, the WAR Community Team, and more!

Baltimore Games Day attendees who visited the Mythic Entertainment booth were some of the very first to experience the upcoming Land of the Dead content in all its glory. Fans were also treated to some great (and free!) giveaways. Some extra special prizes were handed out to the victors of our WAR trivia and WAAAGH!-offs (where participants faced-off with their loudest, meanest WAAAGH! for prizes). Giveaways included an exclusive WAR t-shirt, in-game items, art books, signed graphics novels, and a few even walked away with a WAR Collector’s Edition retail box!

Call to Arms, our first live expansion, is underway and introducing an incredible array of new content to the game, including two highly anticipated new careers - the head bashin' Orc Choppa and the oath-sworn Dwarf Slayer - and the Land of the Dead, a new dungeon zone set in the desert realm of the Tomb Kings.

In addition, an upgrade to the Recruit-A-Friend program has launched (giving player free game and exclusive in-game items!), the official WAR Forums are now open, and a new 10-day free trial of the game is available.

The Call to Arms live expansion will continue to roll out through the next month, with one more in-game live event - Rise of the Tomb Kings, added functionality to the Realm Wars section of the WAR website, and the introduction of the new dungeon zone, the Land of the Dead.

Besides getting 10 free days starting when you reactivate your account, you'll also get all the rested experience for the time you've been gone, and a unique quest chain with bonus reward items!
